Reflection on the Gospel of the Friday In The Fourth Week Of Easter |
John 14: 1-6 |
In the Gospel today, we begin the ‘Farewell Discourse’ (Jn 14-17).The announcement of Jesus’ imminent departure upsets his disciples and so he reassures them that he is going to his heavenly home to prepare a place for them in his Father’s house and promises them that he will return to them and take them home. Jesus reveals himself to them as the Way, the Truth and the Life. He presents himself as the way that leads to the Father because he is the Truth (revelation) of the Father, and his life is the manifestation of the Father’s life. A most consoling message for the disciples is that they know the way to where Jesus is going. Jesus is the way to God: they need to walk along it and have no fear of stumbling. He is the truth: they need to hold on to him and rely on him without fear of being failed/let down by him. He is the life here and now: they need to live it, live it in him and have no fear of death.
Jesus we want to know you more, give us the grace to abide in you so as to experience you as the Way, the Truth and the Life.
