Reflection on the Gospel of the Saturday
|
Mark 2: 13-17 |
Today’s gospel passage focused on call of Levi. At different occasion Jesus called different person for his mission. Levi observed that people called by Jesus are living different and happy life in the community. They lack nothing for their livelihood. People around the village followed Jesus and honoured him. Levi was well qualified and worked as tax collector for Roman emperor. He was faithful and dedicated to his work. On account of his work entire community hated him and started calling him as sinner. He was longing for love and kindness from the people but he got rejection from the community.
St. Augustine life style got changed by the teaching Bp. Ambrose similarly, Levi life got changed by the teaching of Jesus. Levi was longing to join the companion of Jesus, but he felt that Jesus will not accept him as his companion because he was doing tax collector job also he got a seal “sinner” in the community. Levi was focused on his past life and he never expected that Jesus will call him. In the unexpected hour Jesus called him for his mission. As soon as he heard the call he left everything and followed Jesus. Later he become great Apostles and evangelist in the community.
Yes, friends things happened perfectly at unexpected time. Lets forget all the former things happened in the past and focus on the future. All things happened in our life is for our benefits and growth. Isaiah 43:19 Lord says, “I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert” Lets keep the verse in our heart and do mediation in our prayer and achieve the goal of our life
