Reflection on the Gospel of the Friday
|
Luke 10:13-16 |
Jesus is preparing the 70 disciples now to send them on a mission to spread the Word of God. He repeats the instructions given to the 12 apostles, insisting on the urgency of spreading the message and not to waste time on social niceties. He asks them to bless the people who receive them with the ‘Peace of God’ and to also humbly accept the hospitality offered to them without making extra demands.
However, they also have to be prepared to be rejected by people and advises them on how to handle such rejection. The reference to Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum is relevant here as these were the towns that rejected the teachings of Jesus. He indirectly tells them that by rejecting his message they were rejecting God himself and will bear the consequences.
How do we accept the message of God? Are we willing to repent and turn back to the Lord?
