Reflection on the Gospel of the Friday
|
Luke 16: 1-8 |
In today’s gospel, the unjust steward was lazy and dishonest. He squandered his master’s possessions. When his master discovers this, the crisis begins. He is called to give an account. The master commends the dishonest steward who has forgone his own commission on the business transaction by having the debtors write new notes that reflected only the real amount owed to the master. In this way he succeeds in securing the debtor’s sympathy so that he can expect a favour in future when he is out of job.
Jesus gave this example to remind his disciples that their material goods would like-wise be taken away by death, so they must use their earthly goods in the way most advantageous for their situation after death, that is, in the way that would lead to their salvation.
Wealth like money & possessions are good but we should not put our entire trust in worldly goods. We are called to trust God totally to supply us our daily needs.
We as Christians are called to be good stewards of all the gifts and talents God has blessed us with.
