Reflection on the Gospel of the Friday In The Third Week Of Advent |
Matthew 1:1-17 |
The genealogy of Jesus is spelt out in detail only in the Gospel according to Mathew. The significance of the genealogy is that God became human through his son. The Word became flesh through the lineage of David as promised and was perfected in the birth of Jesus, post 28 generations, the perfect one without blemish was born.
The genealogy also lists out some very significant and some not so significant names in history. Some who directly contributed to the leadership and upliftment of the tribes and also the women who positively contributed to salvation history.
During this season of advent, as we prepare ourselves for the birth of our Lord, let us remember all those who have contributed to our lives, our parents, siblings, spouses, spiritual mentors and others along life’s path who have affirmed our faith in the Lord and brought us closer to God. We pray for them specially today.
