Reflection on the Gospel of the ThursdayOf The Seventh Week In Ordinary Time |
Mark 9:41-50 |
Respect and reverence in approach towards others and not to envy any good coming from others is a sign of a good Christ disciple.
The images used concerning bodily limbs and the harsh treatment especially on leading others astray are to make teaching easy to understand but we make it confusing and complex to understand by taking the word literally. Todays scripture reading cautions and warns us to separate our selves from any intimate friendship that causes us to sin and avoid the occasion of sin. Best is to enter heaven without them than to make ourselves to hell here on earth. It is not easy to make such choices, we will probably have to face and overcome trials and sufferings but the Lords grace will keep us going. Holy Spirit helps us to avoid the occasion of sin.
