Matthew 6:24-34
“The time is fulfilled and Kingdom of God has come near repent and believe in good news” is proclaimed by Jesus to Jews people. Jesus’s lengthest sermon covered in Matthew gospel from ch 5 to 7. Past few days we were reflected on Jesus sermon on concerning retaliation, love for enemies, almsgiving and prayers but in today’s passage Jesus is asking us to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Let’s us reflect on the same.
There are 3 types of kingdom
- Kingdom of this World
- Kingdom of God
- Kingdom of Heaven.
To survive in any of the kingdom one has to follow certain principle, rules and regulations. In order to live in the kingdom of this world one has to obey the rules and regulations laid by the government and obey the law and order of the country so that he/she shall be live happy life. Similarly to live in kingdom of God one has to obey and follow the teaching of Jesus Christ. If any one lives as per Christs teaching then he/she is eligible to live in kingdom of heaven.
In this world, each of us have different aims to achieved in our lives, and accordingly we train and have a master to guide us. But as a Christian we should have one goal and one master to direct us and our goal is to establish kingdom of God in the world. Every day in Lord’s prayer we pray “your kingdom come”, but to bring this kingdom among us, what are the actions we are doing? What are the efforts we are taking? Which are our focus areas? Without knowing the real meaning of the prayer, we simply say the words.
To establish the kingdom of God one has to be baptized in Christ, live a life as per the word of God, imitate Christ in our own living, do good deeds towards our neighbour. As per Jesus words Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. If we set treasure/importance to things of this world, then our hearts will be attached to material things and we will be running behind the world to achieve more earthly and temporary things which vanish as times or circumstances change in our lives, creating anxiety for us. Today Jesus is saying do not be anxious about anything. Our heavenly Father knows our needs and wants, and has a perfect plan for our to see that we are fully satisfied in this world and in heaven also. Therefore simply trust and rely on God’s to provide you. He will take care of all our desires. Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will fully satisfy every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” As Christians therefore our focus needs to be directed on heavenly things/lasting things and our actions should to store up treasure in heaven by establishing the Kingdom of God within ourselves, within our families, within our communities and within our Church, thereby bringing heaven here on Earth.
