Reflection on the Gospel of the Wednesday

John 6:37-40 |
I was asked a question recently, ‘Why did God create Death?’ And my answer was, how could God, who is the source of Life, all Life, create Death. It is rather we, humanity, that has brought in death. We can understand it like an Electric Lantern, as long as the Lantern has power coming in (live electricity or battery), it can shine, but when all life/charge is over, we fade away. God gave humanity life as a gift and please note, God never takes away the gifts he gives. But Humanity, through the representational acts of Adam and Eve, chose to distance God from their life, and hence alienated themselves from the source of Life. In God blessing the Marriage Covenant, He has given humanity the Gift of pro-creating, but as long as humanity stays away from God, that life is bound by time, and fades away.
Jesus did a remarkable thing through His passion, death and resurrection, He turned death into a doorway. No longer do we need to be afraid of it. For all those who believe and place their trust in Jesus and the salvific actions He carried out, Death is the Doorway back into the Garden of Eden, back in God’s Presence. Jesus says this in today’s passage, “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son (as the Israelites looked on the Bronze Serpent) and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
