Reflection on the Gospel of the Thirteenth Sunday
|
Matthew 10: 37-42 |
This Gospel is simple to understand, and we lean towards understanding it as explaining the cross and rewards. But it is speaking in a different way about John 3:16 – God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him may have eternal Life., Yet not stressing on the central truth that John 3:16 speaks about, more about our response to John 3:16, as stated in John 3:36 – to believe means not lip service but living out the belief. The idea here being – do you really love Jesus? If so check your life, to see how much.
Life as we understand it has many failings that we encounter in ourselves. Yet, do we get up and still persist to love Jesus. The best example here is of a parent, who despite his/her own failings, will continue to love and take care of his/her children. And continue to do so even if the child has his/her own failings. Remember Jesus and Peter in the post resurrection scene, where Jesus inquires of Peter, ‘Do you love me more than these?’ Here the idea is that don’t get bogged down by your failings, continue to love Jesus, and stay close to Him. When you have this idea clear in your head; all guilt will flee, all ideas of unworthiness will know their place, and all love will well up and take its rightful place in your life. When this happens, you will automatically run to Jesus and ask Him to share His Cross with you.
