Reflection on the Gospel of the Fifth Sunday

John 14: 1-12 |
A couple of years ago, my doorbell rang one Saturday evening. My dad answered the door and found two women with a kid at our door. They said they were visiting families and they were from a Bible group in Goregaon. Since those were also the days when I was formally studying scripture at the Goregaon Seminary, my dad assumed that they were my friends from MoW (Ministry of the Word) who dropped in for a visit. He let them in and called out for me saying some friends from my Bible Class had turned up. However, I was left confused when I didn’t recognize them. Dad had offered them some basic hospitality but the introductions between us didn’t really happen. It was directly a hi, hello!!! We wanted to know if you know what God the Father looks like? (I would later find out they were evangelical Christians) I really don’t exactly remember my answer but I do know the gist of my reply. I was probably kindled my the Spirit, passionate about scripture and I replied saying that I didn’t really need to know what God the Father looked like. Jesus himself told us that if we have seen Him, we have seen the Father. ( I wasn’t aware then that I had replied unknowingly straight from John 14) I further said that I wasn’t bothered about such a matter. What exactly will God be like .. what will eternity be? All that doesn’t matter now. What matters now is do you know the Lord? Can you recognize him? Can you listen to him and speak to him? Can you recognize His work, His providence, His love, His protection and His guidance in your life? What does Jesus mean to you? If I have to pass away into eternity the next moment will I have to fear meeting the Lord or will I be eager to meet Him, eager to hear Him say.. well done good and faithful servant, come enter my Father’s house that I have prepared for you.
So what’s the heart of the matter? Reasoning out the unfathomable mystery of the Trinity or living the faith by growing a more meaningful relationship with the Trinity through Jesus who is the way.. the truth and the life that He gives us through His Holy Spirit and the loving Father.
