Reflection on the Gospel of the Thursday
|
Luke 12:49-53 |
“I have come to cast fire upon the earth, and how I wish it were already ablaze!
Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division!”
Frightening, but these are the word of God. Jesus uses strong words to foretell the hardship and the consequences his disciples will need to face when working in and standing up for the Kingdom of God. Proclamation of the word will not be an easy task, to the extent that there will be divisions among friends and families, nations and all sorts of groups. Are we prepared for such a situation? Do we take the divisions in a positive attitude? Are we persistent in proclaiming the word? In today’s Gospel, Jesus is strengthening and encouraging us, He will always be there with us in good and bad times, and definitely in our weakest moments.
Lord Jesus thank you for this scriptural forewarning and advance preparation/training you give us to face the real world. Holy Spirit help us to be firm and rooted Jesus in all situations, especially those we cannot understand. Help us to open up to you and seek your help for the the difficult situations and moments in our lives.
