John 6:53-59
Today’s gospel passage is a part of the Eucharistic discourse given by Jesus in John 6: 51-58. He is referring to his dying on the cross for the redemption of humankind, like the fruit bearing death of a grain of wheat. Jesus invites us to partake of his flesh and drink his blood, the blood that gives eternal life with the promise of the resurrection to a new life in him. Through the reception of the Holy Eucharist, we become one with God and establish an intimate loving relationship with Christ, our Saviour, like the life relationship between the Father and Jesus. We get so pre-occupied with satisfying our bodily hunger that we discount the need to nourish ourselves at the Table of the Lord.
The online masses were a solution to the demands of the Pandemic, but the Lord waits patiently on us to return to receive his body and blood and carry him in our hearts. Let us respond with the same love and patience for our eternal reward!
