Reflection on the Gospel of the TuesdayOf The Fifteenth Week In Ordinary Time |
Matthew 11:20-24 |
This Gospel Reading indeed is heart rendering. We can visualize the pain in Jesus’ words.
Jesus’ ministry and most of his miracles/healings were done in the northern areas of Palestine and Jesus does names some of these cities where he taught, preached and did many a miracles. What kept these from accepting the Messiah? What kept them from going beyond the miracles? or even probe into Jesus’ identity further because of the miracles and healings. There are mention of three raising from the dead episodes and even the multiplication of bread and fish events. Yet why the hardness of heart and resistance to accepting the Messiah. And Capernaum is without excuse. This was Jesus’ base of ministry. Blessed indeed it was, yet this would not save it from judgement for not accepting the Messiah.
The hard fact remains, humanity has got comfortable to sin, and made it the normal way of life. It prefers the comfort of operating selfishly and has no discomfort to walk over the rights of others, especially the poor and hurting. It has grown immune to the truth and reality. It has developed methods to not be effected by those around – myopic eyes – these help it avoid looking beyond itself.
Pray then, pray for yourself and for those around you, constantly, that God’s Word drench them over and over and awaken in them the desire for the truth, transform them and bring fruit in their life. Holy Spirit, stir up and awaken us.
