  • What is the Yeast of the Pharisees
  • It so happened that when Jesus made this statement
    • His disciples had foolishly forgotten to being sufficient bread for all of them
    • They realised it too late.
    • And when Jesus spoke of the Yeast of the Pharisees
    • They by guilt, felt Jesus was chastising them for not being attentive to get sufficient bread.
  • In the Old Testament,
    • Yeast was associated as the action of corruption that can rapidly be the cause of sin.
    • Jesus is associating this with the
      • Pharisaic Lifestyle
        • They claimed knowledge of God and his actions
        • Yet lived a life detached from God and his reality
      • Herod’s Lifestyle
        • Was a self-centred lifestyle
        • At the expense of others
  • He is warning them not to fall prey to such attitudes
    • Desire God fully
    • With a singular mindset
    • Just like the Great Shema asked them to do
      • Hear, O Israel:
      • The Lord is our God, the Lord
      • You shall love the Lord your God
      • with all your heart,
      • and with all your soul,
      • and with all your might.
      • Deut 6:4
