Reflection on the Gospel of the Sixth Sunday

John 14: 15-21 |
What a friend we have in Jesus! it’s a hymn that’s familiar and profound. In our journey of faith in Christ, there are moments that strike out of our minds. Moments that we cried out to our friend and He answered us. Jesus is truly unlike any other, He promises to be with us always through His Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit that speaks to us when we seek answers, enriches our lives and makes us incredible witnesses for Christ. It is through the Holy Spirit that our lives can truly transform and attune our hearts to the heart of God.
We begin to hope in Christ and live our faith as true witnesses if we have a deeper love for Christ. But loving Christ sincerely is by keeping his Commandments. Simply summarized as loving God and loving thy neighbour. Loving their neighbour isn’t possible without truly loving God. Loving God isn’t possible unless we die to ourselves. Dying to our vices, sins, idols that have taken the place of God in our lives. We truly need to surrender everything for the greater glory of God.
Our soul is never satisfied until it receives God’s spirit. Soul food is virtue. Our soul is saved by our saviour but we must also imitate Him. Jesus defeated Satan by being humble, loving and losing everything for our sake. It is the only way to defeat Satan.. Being like Jesus, to conquer evil we need to surrender everything to Jesus. But this journey isn’t a rosy picture even if we are filled with the Spirit. Faith is always tested by the Spirit so that we can grow in faith. There’s no escape from temptation but we need to believe that our Friend will help us conquer if we surrender to Him.
