Today’s Eucharistic theme is Witnesses.
The Letter, 1 John speaks of those who have God residing in them; these it says cannot deny Jesus and the Father. And their fruit is that they witness the reality of God in their lives and the world in General. 1 John also warns of false witnesses who will confuse the people into believing their own version of the truth. 1 John here reminds the God Bearer Christians to hold firm to the truth that they encountered when they met Christ, and He filled them with His Spirit. Like Job, hold to the truth of their own encounter/relationship with God, and do not get mislead by the voices all around. Trust God to engage you and reveal Himself, to you personally, as He did Job.
The Second Witness is that of John the Baptist; He who humbled himself and confessed that he was unworthy to untie the Christ’s Sandals, yet he had been given the responsibility to proclaim Christ’s Immediate coming.
Let us pause; and realise that God is with us all, no distinction, because Jesus became flesh for all of us. He is here now and near to us. Hold to this truth, and approach Him in faith, and asked earnestly in humble faith. He will respond.
