Reflection on the Gospel of the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time |
Matthew 5: 17-37 |
In today’s Gospel we are called to explore beyond the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees through expanding the understanding of the law. It’s a plan to live in the wisdom of God by going beyond following the law to the letter but being more enriched in a relationship with God. It appears that Jesus makes following the law more difficult, it appears as if he is demanding perfection. However, he calls us to live life in his light, being free, experiencing truth, love and justice. It is through him that we can consider all matters with the heart and not mathematical calculations of reward and punishment on personal merit.
Basically, it’s simply being in the RIGHT RELATIONSHIP with God. The choice is ours; we can choose to be seeking pleasure, wealth, power and never be satisfied or we can be content with God by simply listening to his word in our heart.
