Reflection on the Gospel of the Twenty-Fifth Sunday
|
Matthew 20: 1-16 |
In the Gospel parable of the workers in the Lord’s vineyard Jesus gives us a glimpse of God’s generous love that’s often misunderstood by the workers.
The aim of the parable is to respond to God’s love as soon as he invites us to work in his vineyard. If we truly live life reflecting Jesus we will develop a better relationship with him and understand his thoughts and plans for us. We shouldn’t be competing in holiness. Our journey with the Lord should be a personal intimacy with him irrespective of when your friend or other family members or other Christians respond to the Lord. Jesus gives us an invitation to seek him, to know him, work in building his kingdom and gain a generous reward of Eternal life. Yes, the Lord invites everyone to do the same, yet a few will respond immediately and most will respond later. God patiently waits for people to respond to him. He keeps sending personal invitations out.
The question is, if you have received the invitation, why are you waiting? What’s holding you back? Are you envious of how others are loved by God? Do you expect God to love you more than others? The questions in your mind are a reflection of how well you know the Lord and have intimacy with him.
