Reflection on the Gospel of the Thursday In The Twenty-First Week In Ordinary Time
Matthew 24:42-51
“We will be abundant blessed when found awake or on duty,” what does duty, work or be awake refer to in this context?
Today’s reading appeals to us to be aware of the situations around us, be ready for any possible situations of life. Though change may be the need of the hour, our way of life and friendship with God should always be the constant in the storm that our lives are. This highlights the fact that we need to be genuine in all our relationships, and trust God with all our strength, mind and heart. Yet we are warned that we should not be presumptuous and expect change and pain. Yet drawing from the Well of Living Water – Jesus, not hide behind masks and facades, be our selves, going about our lives with God.
This teaching compels us to reflect on Israel’s past history, introspect our personal lives in the present and be vigilant against any surprises curves life may throw our way, and so miss the Eternal Life Boat. We our responsible for our own actions and deeds. Holy Spirit help us to be watchful and strengthen us and prepare us to be ready to receive your abundant blessing.
