Reflection on the Gospel of the THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD |
Matthew 28: 16-20 |
Lukewarm Christian, is what I think of myself? Happy and comfortable being Christian in name but not in Spirit. I know the Gospel story, I know the message but I’m not the Spirit-led witness.
Jesus has given us the mandate to be His witnesses. Yet we are unable to bear fruit. We easily give up when we get pruned or fall in a habitual sin. We have failed to recognize and understand the true image of God and we don’t want to spend time getting to know him better because we have other priorities. We convince ourselves that we are scared of sharing the Gospel with others but the truth is are we really living the Gospel?
In today’s Gospel Jesus assures us that if we are his true witnesses people will recognize us by our fruits which are virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is the Spirit of Jesus that will work within us, transforming us into remarkable witnesses.
But do we really even believe the message? Do we want to discover it a new? Do we want to listen to him speaking to us? Do we really want to be open to the Spirit working with us? Or are we more afraid of the testing that comes with the mandate?
Whatever the questions in your mind, Jesus is with us as we walk through life. Acknowledge him and He will truly guide you if we sincerely seek him.
