Spiritually we can be likened to a ship, and this ship needs to flow in the River of Life (Holy Spirit), who continuously is transforming us and renewing us. But we also need to have Jesus in our Ship as the anchor (security) of our life. In sinning we are dropping anchors every time we indulge is sin. At times we are not even aware of these anchors, at times they are glaring us in the face, but we do not want to do anything about them. In the end we have lost count of all these anchors, some are even hidden. What happens to a ship with so many anchors? It stop, it becomes secure, and these anchors can even become a snare to death. But most importantly, we have stopped moving and are becoming stagnant, and there is no Jesus in our life.
This habit of throwing anchors is in all of us, but the remedy to this is everyday to cut them also, so they do not become a snare, and a means of alienating us from God. Hence Jesus is in the Gospel Reading is urging us to right the wrong immediately, that is a far greater acknowledgment of God, because by our actions of reconciliation we tell God, that He is more important to us that the security of the anchors of sin.
Sit before Jesus and start cutting those anchors…
