Reflection on the Gospel of theTHE ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD(Friday in the Fourth Week of Lent) |
Luke 1: 26-38 |
Today our Mother church celebrate annunciation of the Lord. It is a call narrative of Mary and her mission in the history of salvation. God the Father sent an invitation through the angel Gabriel to a virgin named Mary. The Angel Gabriel came to Mary and greeted her as soon as Mary heard the greeting she was disturbed and worried about the greeting from this strange person. Mary hesitated because she did not understand the plan of God still she accepted the will of the God and surrender herself to the holy will of God.
A call narrative in the bible has five stages :
- A God Encounter
- A Mission is Given
- There is an Objection from the Mission Receiver
- He is Assured
- He is given a sign
Each and every person called in the bible to a special mission have these five stages in the episode of their call. In OT Moses played an important role in redemption history of Israel from Egypt, similarly in NT Mary too had these five stages in her life.
- God Encounter – When angel Gabriel appears to Mary (Godly experience or presence of God)
- Mission —– Mary will be Mother of the son of God
- Objection — Mary was Virgin and just Betrothed to a man
- Assurance — Holy spirit come upon her
- Sign —– Mary’s kinswoman Elizabeth conceived in her old age
Jeremiah 29: 11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” God is having a big plan about our future, very often we take decisions by seeing our present situation whereas God sees our future and accordingly leads us. Mary could not understand the plan of God in the beginning, still she accepted the call and surrender herself to the will of God. Similarly, when we face situations wherein our human brain is unable to understand logic and the heart is unable to understand, it in such situation that we need to accept the situation and keep trust in God and move ahead, knowing God you will bless us in the process.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” John 3:16. When time has come God the father send his son
