Reflection on the Gospel of the FridayOf The Fifteenth Week In Ordinary Time |
Matthew 12:1-8 |
Todays Gospel speaks about Jesus reaffirming the priesthood of the Apostles. This he does by first introducing David, at the time of his being given the Show Bread of God’s Presence, an ordinary regular Israelite. How his dedication and following of Yahweh and righteousness won him the favour of Yahweh. In addition they were liturgically pure because they were sexually abstaining and dedicated to the Lord God.
Then Jesus reminds them Sabbath should be viewed in context, and the priests officiating in the temple are allowed to work in God’s presence.
Lastly, Jesus introduces himself as God – what is important, God or the Temple?
In like manner he points to his Apostles, they are attending to their God, and there is no greaterservice, worship and honour.
Let us then come before God like the Apostles; with all our heart, mind and soul, and work through this day knowing God is besides us, and we are serving him in everything that we do.
