Feast: St. Mary MagdaleneJohn 20: 1-2, 11-18 |
Jesus throughout his life journey in the world had done many miracles and wonders among people. Many people who received healing from illness and deliverance had followed Jesus and become his disciples and Apostles. Mary of Magdalene is one of the disciples of Jesus from her Jesus drive out 7 demons. She helped Jesus in his ministry and serve him throughout her life. She was one of the witnesses of the crucifixtion, burial and resurrection. She was the first person to see Jesus post resurrection and bore witness to apostles.
Mary of Magdalene was very fond of Jesus. She noticed that Jesus burial was not as per Jews ritual so she went to tomb to pay homage to Jesus. As soon as she reached tomb she was shocked by seeing the empty tomb. She was disturbed and started weeping at the entrance of the tomb and search for Jesus in the garden and started enquired about Jesus body with the people whom she encountering. Her continuous search lead her to see the resurrected Jesus face to face. Jesus called her by name ,calling of one’s name at that time, in that situation, in that voice, in that tone is the most personal manner of revelation and that it is not just about Jesus, but also about Jesus in His relationship with her thus she become apostles to Jesus disciples. She helped Jesus disciples to have faith in resurrected Jesus and continue the mission in the name of Jesus
As per scripture James 4: 8 “Draw near to God , and he will draw near to you” Like Mary of Magdalene when we draw near to God and have intimacy relationship with Jesus then Jesus reveal himself to us. We too get similar experience Mary in our life.
“Let us ask for the grace to have deep intimacy with Jesus as Mary Magdalene had”
