Reflection on the Gospel of the Sixteenth Sunday

Matthew 13: 24-43 |
Evil takes root even in the greatest good. In the parable of the wheat and weeds, Jesus recognized good’s co-existence with evil.
This is shocking to some Christians. How could God allow evil in the world? Shouldn’t God act to save his people? Why did he delay?
Jesus countered those questions with an observation. God allowed evil in the world for the greater good. It is when we encounter evil that our hearts are challenged to do good. We are given a choice of free will out of love to do the right thing. We often face choices that are a reflection of our inner self. We are given a choice to be the fruitful wheat among the weeds. What will we choose to be?
