Reflection on the Gospel of the Friday In The Thirtieth Week In Ordinary Time |
Luke 14:1-6 |
A rhetorical question is posed by Jesus to the Pharisees, who obviously had no face to reply! The Pharisees had raised objections when Jesus’s disciples picked corn on the Sabbath and also when Jesus healed a man on the Sabbath. Today, Jesus poses the question back to the Pharisees, ‘if it was lawful to heal the man with dropsy on the Sabbath?’
Jesus tries to reason out and make them really understand the meaning of the Sabbath. Doing a good deed on the Sabbath does not violate the Sabbath rather reflects the love of God that we need to show to our fellow human beings.
Our decision to reach out to others should not be limited by rules or mindsets, but rather by the feeling of brotherly love (Agape) for each other.
