John 20:11-18
Jeff Cavins (Bible Timeline) draws our attention to a significant detail of the Tomb being in a Garden. Just as the Fall took place in the Garden in Eden, there is this Garden, and Jesus is affirming Humanity through Mary of Magdala. There is re-creation taking place.
The first point of importance is that John brings forward the reference of ‘woman’, and here are the angels inquiring, “woman…, why do you weep?”. And this episode is somewhat like that of the two individuals on the Emmaus Road (Luke 24). All hope lost, yet the heart is yearning for warmth and understanding regarding Jesus, whom they had called Christ. And within this desire and suffering, Mary encounters Jesus. Just the one word from the Master is enough to melt away every doubt, dry every tear, and fill her heart with Joy and gladness. And her being is overflowing.
This promise holds good for us also. If we yearn and desire to encounter Jesus, He will surely reveal himself to us.
We can also see reality being perceived from a better and correct perspective and how Christ changed and influenced the Christians and the Gospel writers. They could have easily have glossed over the fact that Mary a Woman was blessed by Jesus by granting her his first appearance. Naturally this was a patrisitic society, yet Jesus brings in equality. There is no small or big, important or unimportant, lost or found, all our his and equally important.
This is what Jesus does for each of us when we invite him/ in our lives. He changes the root of all thought and action in our lives. He removes fear that is deeply embedded in our lives. He reveals things for what they are, thus we see things clearly and correctly.
Pray then this moment, And make Jesus the Master of your life, so that Rabboni may indeed wash us white as snow, with his presence and wisdom.
