Reflection on the Gospel of the TuesdayOf The Fourteenth Week In Ordinary Time |
Matthew 9:32-38 |
The key to understand what is going on here is another statement of Jesus; Only in seeing the fruit can we understand the source of the actions of an individual. Another thing to keep in mind is that the people of Jesus’ time considered all diseases and sicknesses to come from evil spirits and demons. So the the question is raised in verses 32-34, ‘What is the fruit of Jesus’ ministry?’ And the answer is given in verse 35f. These verses analyse Jesus’ ministry; that of Teaching, Proclaiming of the Gospel, curing every disease and every sickness, meaning there is nothing that Jesus had no authority and power over. Even his action of Love is shown – i.e. the heart of God’s Shepherd – When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd – vs.36. and is showcased much more in his desire for more labourers who will be able to imitate Him, in being a blessing and healing for the world.
If you have doubt like the Jewish authorities about Jesus, read these verses, understand the good God Jesus is and reflect on that.
