Reflection on the Gospel of the Friday In The Fourth Week Of Advent |
Luke 1:67-79 |
The gospel passages since last week are a build up to the Christmas Story. In today’s passage Luke is highlighting the point that God is fulfilling his promise by raising a mighty saviour from the House of David; the promise of redemption which was foretold by the prophets. Zechariah then spells out the role that his son John will perform. The one to prepare the people to meet the Lord; one who will be dedicated to the works of God. John’s duty is to lead the people to salvation by calling them to repentance and obtaining salvation through the forgiveness of sins.
This forgiveness is possible only through God’s tender mercy which we will see in the form of his son Jesus, who will lead us to light!
We are just a day away from Christmas – Let us soak ourselves in the joy, peace and hope that our sweet baby Jesus brings to us with his birth. Glory to the new born King, our Saviour!
