- It so happened that when Jesus made this statement
- His disciples had foolishly forgotten to being sufficient bread for all of them
- They realised it too late.
- And when Jesus spoke of the Yeast of the Pharisees
- They by guilt, felt Jesus was chastising them for not being attentive to get sufficient bread.
- In the Old Testament,
- Yeast was associated as the action of corruption that can rapidly be the cause of sin.
- Jesus is associating this with the
- Pharisaic Lifestyle
- They claimed knowledge of God and his actions
- Yet lived a life detached from God and his reality
- Herod’s Lifestyle
- Was a self-centred lifestyle
- At the expense of others
- Pharisaic Lifestyle
- He is warning them not to fall prey to such attitudes
- Desire God fully
- With a singular mindset
- Just like the Great Shema asked them to do
- Hear, O Israel:
- The Lord is our God, the Lord
- You shall love the Lord your God
- with all your heart,
- and with all your soul,
- and with all your might.
- Deut 6:4
