Reflection on the Gospel of the Second Sunday
|
Matthew 17: 1-9 |
Peter, James and John were selected by Jesus to witness something extraordinary on the mountain top. They seen Jesus as God. He was transfigured right before their very eyes. Moses and Elijah representing the Law and the Prophets also stood by Jesus’ side. If that wasn’t enough God Almighty himself spoke at this awesome event. It was truly a heavenly feeling for the three Apostles. They wanted to remain in God’s Glory, enjoying the experience but Jesus had other plans. Jesus asked them to get down the mountain with him, there’s work to be done.
Well, it is never easy to follow Christ. Just when you feel comfortable, you will be called to face another challenge out of your comfort zone. Faith isn’t about being comfortable, it is challenging. If we are never challenged in our Faith, we will never grow in our Faith. Lent is that challenge, we may have started well, or we may have been faltering already but that’s besides the point. Are we ready to trust God when he takes us out of our comfort zone?
In the First Reading Abraham too was asked to leave his comfortable home and go to an unknown place. The challenge is too keep walking with Christ, trusting in his guidance and hoping in Him as your saviour when you land up hurting yourself failing and faltering between your feet.
