Reflection on the Gospel of the Wednesday

Matthew 20: 17-28 |
But Jesus called them to him and said,
“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.
It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant,
and whoever would be first among you must be your slave;
even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Jesus here speaks of becoming a slave and serving others. What does He mean? If Jesus is love, then here He is talking the language of Love. Love is seen in a mother serving her children, selfless, humble and filled with affection. We then are called to love and serve those around us, with a selfless Love. We may not be appreciated or are taken for granted, but that is the way of truth – selfless love. We were created to Love, and our lives are blessed and we discover ourselves in serving others. The world teaches about self-love, but love cannot be self-serving.
Today positions of power and responsibility are about self-gratification. This is a result of humanity loosing faith in God, humanity turning inward and asking the question, what have I gained? This points to the reality that there is a disconnect between humanity and God. Humanity does not have a proper relationship with God, and hence does not believe that God is capable, God will and God does meet all our needs. This situation of no faith has led humanity towards insecurity, which in turn has made it grab for itself everything around it.
Take a moment and reflect. What is it that you want to be. I heard this from someone else; God created humanity on the 6th day with the animals, why? So that we believing our vocation and our reality, ‘that we are created in God’s Image’, may rise and be transformed to the 7th day, to worship God – through being reflections of Him, for all to see. Do you want to be such a person, or do you want to live your life like an animal, instinctually.
Come Holy Spirit lead us into all Truth.
