Reflection on the Gospel of the Thursday Of The Third Week In Ordinary Time(Memorial: St Timothy & St. Titus) |
Mark 4:1-20 |
A large crowd continued following Jesus and gathered around him to receive healing and blessings. Jesus now introduced a unique way to give them healing and blessing, this way he will not give something temporary or it will not be about miracles. Jesus now breaks the word, Jesus teaches them with simple daily living examples, like the lamp, bushel, seed, soil, sower. He speaks to them and teaches them uniquely (in parables) in this way. Such parable teachings appeals to the crowd differently and personally. They need only be open to the word and allow it to grow and mature in them. Through out the gospel Jesus speaks to us through parables, and specifically today with through the parable of the sower, the seed and the soil. Let us pray and prepare ourselves for the trials set before us, at the same time let us allow ourselves to be rooted in the God’s Word. Let us stand firm against persecution on account of the Word, let us not give in to the desires of worldly things and be choked with worldly affairs. Let us pray and be the good soil, hear the word, accept it and bear fruit, thirty/sixty/hundredfold. Holy Spirit help us to grow in and through the teachings of God’s Word.
