Reflection on the Gospel of the First Sunday of Advent |
Luke 21:25-28, 34-36 |
Alert! Alert! It’s the Gospel of the End Times. We may not know when the end will be but we are to be ready for it anytime. Although Luke’s Gospel does paint a scary picture, we may not be sure if the distress among nations or in the universe point towards impending doom. Some may even conclude that the end is already here foreseeing the Climate Change Crisis that looms over the horizon. However the language of the Gospel is written to strongly indicate that the end will be unlike any other past experience and many may get distracted but the faithful are expected to be courageous in the Lord, relying on his redeeming love with grace and justice. The flock of the Good Shepherd will continue to hope and trust in the Lord despite the gloom and doom around. It is therefore necessary for us to start recognizing the voice of the Good Shepherd now itself so that when the end is near we may truly be able to discern the way of truth and not be weak and stumbling trapped by the enemy.
