Reflection on the Gospel of the Wednesday
|
Matthew 15:21-28 |
Most of you have heard today’s Gospel story many times. But how many times have you heard the Holy Spirit calling you by name and telling you that He wants you today to be Jesus who went into enemy land to extend His mercy, to bless, to care, and to love? Is the Holy Spirit asking you to evaluate your faith in comparison to the Canaanite woman?
In today’s Gospel text Jesus deliberately goes into enemy land to meet this woman who has a Heart full of faith and is waiting for His mercy and healing. Though it looks like Jesus is ignoring her by not responding to her plea, He is teaching and preparing His disciples to extend the message of salvation to all those who believe and have faith in His Mercy. In the News today (2022), has anyone read or heard about a ‘Canaanite woman’ (anyone seeking mercy and healing), who experienced a miracle of Healing for her daughter, through a prayer made by a Christian (who is supposed to be another Christ)? Aren’t there Many Canaanites waiting for us to step out in faith, to be channels of love, mercy, and healing? Are we ready to fearlessly work for the Kingdom of God?
The Canaanite woman did not come for herself but for her daughter. When was the last time we brought someone to Christ? She was willing to be humiliated and be ridiculed for the love of her daughter. Are we willing to decrease so that Christ’s Love and mercy are channelled through us for God’s glory?
Lord, help us to go where You lead us and to hold in our Hearts all those who seek you, leading them to your fount of Mercy. Amen.
