Reflection on the Gospel of the WednesdayOf The Tenth Week In Ordinary Time |
Luke 10:38-42 |
“Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things;
there is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Indeed we all are like Martha, and worry about many things. We are influenced by the world around, which has conditioned us to many things, like money, systems of work, etc. And if we do not do all these things, we will fail, starve etc.
God’s word says, God will provide, feed and take care of us, we need to only pursue him with all our heart, mind and strength. We really do not believe this, because we strife to provide for ourselves at the cost of putting our trust in Him. Mary here is not distracted by the world, she has all her attention and focus on Jesus. He affirms her. This is exactly what James says in his epistle; Faith is not a vocal proclamation, but internalised belief, that is lived everyday every moment.
It is not that Martha is wrong, but she has substituted hospitality and devotion for worship.
Internalise today’s message, understand what it means to believe in Jesus, make the decision and live with Him every moment of your life.

An excellent reflection.I hope that I and others who read it prayerfully may strive to follow Mary’s example.
