Reflection on the Gospel of the Third Sunday of Advent |
John 1:6-8, 19-28 |
Today’s readings ask us to rejoice. It’s time for the coming of the Messiah and his kingdom. The promise of Salvation to all is freely available through the anointed one who brings the Gospel.
.
In the First Reading Isaiah describes the Messianic age while in the Second Reading St Paul urges the Thessalonians to make God present in every moment of their lives, praying without ceasing, taking what is good and staying away from offending God. We thus are called to allow the light of Christ to burn within us by living a righteous life through the Spirit and the sacramental life offered by the Church that makes us almost perfect and whole to meet Jesus when our time comes but just like John the Baptist who prepared the way for the people of Israel to recognize Jesus. So must we become witnesses for Jesus. We must take the light of Christ from within us and give the hope of Christ to this broken world.
