John 19:16-42
The passion of our Lord! We have probably heard this account read every year, and every time, we hear this narrative, we re-live this event with a vivid picture painted in our minds of the Lord’s painful and long journey and struggle with the Cross, the challenge that his heavenly Father placed before him and on his shoulders. Yet he did not resist and like a silent lamb followed the path to be slain. Everytime, we move away from our Lord we are driving those nails harder into his hands & feet and causing him much pain. Let us reflect on whom do we identify with among the various onlookers & persons named in the Gospel who witnessed this scene. Am I Pilate who washed his hands off diplomatically, or the Chief Priests who instigated the trial, the mourning onlookers, the soldiers who carried out their duty brutally and ensuring closure? What do we seek from our Lord?
