Matthew 1:16, 18-21, 24a
Matthew starts his gospel with the genealogy of Jesus and presents how Jesus is the fulfillment of the prophecy of Isaiah, that the Son of God will be from the line of David. Joseph who is betrothed to Mary looks after Jesus like a dedicated father. He is described as an upright and just man, whom God chose to be a part of his mission. God makes known his plan to Joseph in a dream and he obeys God’s word and thus plays a very pivotal role in fulfilling God’s plan.
This year is dedicated by the Pope in honour of St. Joseph and we pray to him to bring us closer to Jesus as sons and daughters of God.
