Reflection on the Gospel of the Twenty-Third Sunday
|
Matthew 18: 15-20 |
In today’s Gospel we reflect on Christian Community living. A Christian community that forgives each other and prays together. Community building isn’t easy, it’s challenging. A community based on the teachings of Jesus is to be lived in action. Living the teachings of Jesus in everyday life has to be rooted in love of God which then bears fruit in loving thy neighbour. Thus prayer is a foundation of a community that is rooted in the loving presence of God. A Christian community is expected to stand for Christ and lovingly correct errant members. But loving someone isn’t a mathematical equation where we can expect a guaranteed return of love with interest over our investment. Sometimes it’s just loss. However, we will never truly run out of love if we are genuinely rooted in Christ who continues to invest his love in our hearts if we are open to receiving him by dying to ourselves. Let us be aware of Jesus’ presence and love him more sincerely in prayer.
