Reflection on the Gospel of ASH WEDNESDAY |
Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18 |
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. As is said, to us a special time me given to prepare ourselves for the coming Good Friday and Easter. Indeed it is a special time for us, but I feel it also resounds with the same themes of a Sabbath. It is a time of Renewal and Reorientation and Drawing on the graces granted to us by God.
Many a times, in our walk with God, we get side tracked, we start to prioritise wrongly or we are even disoriented. This then is a special time for us to retreat. Elijah had such an experience, when he fled from King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. He was lead to step back, and he introspected. This time culminated in him encountering God on Mount Carmel. With this encounter, he experienced a renewal, reorientation and refocus on what he needed to do. We too require such an experience. Come then this lent seek the face of the Lord Jesus Christ. Acquaint ourselves anew with who he Is, not who we have made Him out to be. Surrender our thoughts, ways and directions to Him and ask Him to lead us each day, in a personal way, Elijah encountered Yahweh on Mount Carmel, may we begin to experience Him in our everyday, residing in us, leading us and advising us.
I suggest we pick up the Bible and read all the 4 Gospels, in this special time. If you read 2 chapters a day, even on Sundays, you will have completed the Gospels. Desire for Jesus to reveal Himself to you, and wait on him everyday, even if it be for 15 minutes.
