Reflection on the Gospel of the Monday
|
Luke 4: 24-30 |
The connector between today’s First Reading and the Gospel is ‘Humility’. Humility is the first pillar to being transformed, the second being Gratitude, both in abundance on the part of Naaman the Syrian Commander. But we find this lacking in the people of Nazareth, and by effect by quite a many Jews of Jesus’ times. God was boxed to fit into what they believed and that was the thought of the day, and even today we entertain such thoughts. Jesus could not work miracles there because of a lack of humility that God could work though a Carpenters Son, and that was why Jesus was ineffective in Nazareth, God’s grace was like water over a ducks back. They had closed their hearts to God’s grace.
Humility is required to get into the presence of God and remain in His presence, even to hear Him talking to us. If we do not have humility, it is like covering our eyes, ears and heart, thus we do not know how the truth that is brought before us. Humility is the doorway to all virtues coming into your life. Pray then that God help you open up to his message for you, and comes to live with you.
