Reflection on the Gospel of the EASTER SUNDAY/THE LORD’S RESURRECTION |
John 20: 1-9 |
I am the resurrection and the life says the Lord. Easter Sunday is proof of these words. Alleluia! Alleluia! Jesus has Risen from the dead. If the season of Lent was 40 days of penitence, the Easter season is a longer 50 days of rejoicing. Yes, the church indeed gives us more time for rejoicing rather than whipping us as sinners. We are glad that Jesus rose from the dead as it is a clear message of hope and a renewed life in Jesus is possible for us too.
The Lord is alive even today, He is willing to walk with us just like he did with the disciples on Emmaus road on Easter Sunday itself. He will wipe away our tears just like He did for Mary Magdalene and He will keep reassuring us with His presence even when he lose hope like Thomas, Peter and the other struggling disciples.
He may not suddenly appear to you in dramatic fashion but He does speak to you through His words in scripture, the hymn that will be sung at mass or a friend/stranger who will offer you help when you least expect it. He doesn’t want us to die. He wants us to live… live unafraid even under the persecution of evil knowing completely well that He has the power to defeat evil. He died because of evil but He rose again victorious against evil. Our lives as Christians is no different. Let’s recharge our faith in the spirit of Easter and live a life with zeal for the Lord, our Hero.
