Reflection on the Gospel of the Twenty-Eight Sunday
|
Matthew 22: 1-14 |
For many are invited but few are chosen, did you receive the invite?
Today’s gospel helps us reflect on our attitudes towards celebrating a festive meal with the Lord – the Holy Eucharist. It is a foretaste of a even more grand feast awaiting for us in eternal life. The parable notes the various responses towards the invitation from God.
- Outright rejection – the invited individual doesn’t even bother to respond to the invitation given.
- The excuses – the invited individual acknowledged the invitation but doesn’t make it on the priority list. There are other earthly things to take care of, tuition, exams, careers, just one day of the week to laze off, marketing and budgeting, playing to do there’s no time to attend the Holy celebration.
- Kill the messenger – the invited individual is upset with the messenger and mistreat them. It’s common to see people making fun of people who are trying to spread the Word of God, challenging them based on cultural biases of the world. A world in which it easy to live a lie than to stand for Gospel truths.
- Responding with a casual attitude – the invited people attend the celebration without giving it the importance it deserves. How often do we attend the Holy Eucharist with a casual attitude to complete the Sunday obligation?
The invitation is sent to you as well. How will you respond to God’s invitation?
