Reflection on the Gospel of the Thursday
|
John 1: 45-51 |
Philip and Nathanael were learned people, probably they were friends for a long time, and knew each other very well. Both were eagerly and sincerely preparing and waiting for the Messiah to come. Probably they also received teaching, studied and prayed together. According to their study and experience they knew the Messiah was to come soon. This knowledge was further enriched by John the Baptist’s Prophetic call to repent and get prepared, probably confirmed that the Messiahs coming was just around the the corner,
Todays scripture reading gives us an opportunity to reflect, are we like Nathaniel deepening our knowledge, experience, understanding of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord is merciful, all powerful and humble. He can work miracles and bless our efforts. The Lord chose Nazareth an unexpected and downtrodden place, to come and reside and grow up in. None expected the Messiah would come from such a place. Even Philip and Nathanael had not considered this possibility. But their hearts and search was true, The Lord respects our efforts and blesses it by revealing himself. He knows our desire’s, needs, prayers, and establishes His presence in us.
Holy Spirit help us to recognise our weaknesses and help us work in your kingdom like Phillip, help us to dwell in you, and to be the leaven in people’s life – so that they also experience you, and they too like Nathaniel believe come and experience you for themselves.
