Reflection on the Gospel of the Thursday In The Eighteenth Week In Ordinary Time
Matthew 16:13-23
Who do you say Jesus is ? Do we allow Our Father to reveal things to us or are we in a hurry to impose our human thoughts. What do we prefer and what do we testify to? Is it the easy, earthly and human understanding or the rugged way and the Lords guidance. Today’s words and Peters approach teaches us how weak humans are. Initially Peter confesses that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. but soon rebukes Jesus for speaking of his upcoming suffering and death. Jesus tells Peter do not play the tempter’s role (Satan) who tempted Adam, and be the cause of the fall, but to get behind him in mind, thought and action and be the Chosen Disciple (Rock). To be focused on for what he, Jesus have chosen for him.
We too are chosen to be the part of the God’s Family (the Church), are we prepared to work in his Kingdom. We pray the Holy Spirit gives us the grace and gift of Fortitude to be firm in our resolve to love and serve God, very much now in the present challenging situation.
