“Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.”
“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of people.”
Jesus calls his first Disciples; two each from two families, Peter and his brother Andrew, James and his brother John. What could the reason be
- They may have experienced Jesus’s ministry, though they were very busy in their daily business
- Probably they must have had a relationships with God.
- They may have had a God experience.
- They knew a little of Jesus and His activities and probably liked what they saw and heard.
It becomes very difficult to visualise someone, at the drop of a hat, following a strange, totally, leaving behind everything. When Jesus called them they were in the midst of their business activity; one pair of brothers were casting their nets into the sea and the other were mending their nets. Fishing was a top class business in that time.
Today all of us who have a God experience, healing experience of our Lord, when we sense God calling, how many of us have responded straight away from the midst of our high valued jobs, holding high position at work, and responded to God’s call? Were we willing to follow him or if we are called now/today are we willing to leave and follow Jesus.
Following revolves around trust, trust is given when there is familiarity. Having lived as Christian all our lives, have we grown in familiarity and comfort with Jesus? Have we grown in our love and appreciation of Him? Can we say to Jesus, ‘Since I know You, I will follow You…’ To be a disciple means to trust and follow the master everywhere, just putting faith in Him, that where He is taking and leading us is for the best, and to cast away all doubt.
Holy Spirit help me in my daily work activities, Holy Spirit help me discernment your will for my life and follow You.
