The Bible: The Power of Rebirth

Listen, the Lord Calls Out To You

Wednesday of the First Week in Ordinary Time
Reading 1
1 Samuel 3:1-10, 19-20
Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 40:2 & 5, 7-8a, 8b-9, 10
Alleluia
John 10:27
Gospel
Mark 1:29-39
Mass of choice

The standout point in todays Bible Readings is that we are presented a God who seeks us.

God is calling to Samuel in the First Reading is very noticeable. Can we ask a question, Is God partial, and that act of calling to Samuel, was only reserved for Samuel?

The Alleluia; ‘My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord. I know them, and they follow me…‘, from John 10:27, tells us that those who follow Jesus/Yahweh, know and recognise His voice and follow Him. How so?

The Answer is presented in the Gospel Reading, Jesus here representing humanity, daily goes before and waits on the Father. Listening to God whisper to you is a day in and day out exercise, only then can we become familiar with God’s voice, only then, can we be able to discern His voice and will, even in the midst of a crowd or in the midst of a storm. Jesus also shows us the Shepherd Heart of God. He goes to Simon’s Mother-In-Law, just like He called out to Samuel. And just like Samuel, Simon’s Mother-In-Law became God’s messenger; there was a whole crowd of people waiting outside her door, by evening, waiting to have a touch, or to receive healing from Jesus.

Coming to the First Question; God is not partial, and He presents Himself to us, day in and day out. We need to stop, and ask Him to bless us so we be able to understand His words and actions in our life. Come Lord, your son/daughter seeks You. Speak to me, help me in my listening…
