The First Reading tells us of Jonah and his ministry amongst the Assyrians of Nineveh. He preached and they believed, and humbled themselves.
We know from reading the Gospels that Jonah is a type of Christ, in that his life echoes what would happen to Jesus Himself. I.e. Death and Resurrection. But even Jonah’s Ministry is remarkable – it should echo Jesus’ ministry – but does it? There will be a time when Jesus will indict the Jews for their non-belief. Humility is required to help us believe.
Jesus is preaching a very different message from John the Baptist, though the words sound same… Jesus invites us to come and see for ourselves, what it means to live ones ‘Life in Christ’. Then when we have tasted for ourselves, decide to continue our lives in Christ.
