All of Lent we have been shown the love of God for humanity, and have been exhorted to trust Him and love Him in return. In Jesus’ death and resurrection, we are now being asked, see how much God loves us. Do we want to believe? Do we find the need to believe?
Today’s First reading gives us Peter’s exhortation to the Jews – ‘Come believe, this is your Christ, whom God has approved by raising from the dead’. The Gospel presents us with two views… That of the women who visited Jesus’ tomb, and their encounter with Jesus, because they dared to believe. Then there is the soldiers who saw and stopped short of believing, including the Jewish Authorities.
Everything has been laid before us, do we want to believe. If yes we want to believe, count the cost of what it means to believe, pick up the challenge and lay it at Jesus’ feet, ‘Lord I believe, help my unbelief. Lord I want to follow you unwaveringly, but help my faltering steps. Teach me, guide me, encourage me.’
